TCAS

 

TCAS is an abbreviation of Tanzania Catholic Association of Sisters, being a council of Mother Generals, Regional, Provincials, Delegates and Prioresses representing their various Congregations and Societies of Apostolic Life. It is an organ for fostering unity of Sisters in Tanzania irrespective of their individual religious spirituality and source of origin.

 

Vision

To have spirit filled Women religious with solid holistic formation capable of authentic witness to the world.

 

To empower Religious Women in solidarity, hence grow together in the understanding and living of consecrated life in the world today.

 

Background

TCAS was founded in 1963 with the aim of facilitating the activities of the members through discussion and come out with common conclusions in matters concerning the development of the Church. Currently it has 92 member congregations with more than eleven thousand (11,000) sisters. All congregations are deal with apostolic work.

 

There are different congregations:

 

  1. Diocesan congregations

  2. International congregation

  3. Monasteries with prioress

 

Day to day management of the Association is under the secretariat of TCAS based in Dar es Salaam at Tanzania Episcopal Conference Centre. The Secretariat is made up of General Secretary and an Accountant. These are appointed by the Executive Committee Meeting of TCAS.

 

TCAS has tried to establish a Formation Centre which is known as Holistic Education Centre situated in Morogoro Region. The Centre is for On-Going Formation Courses and other functions of education to our Sisters of Tanzania such as seminars, sabbatical programmes, workshops and TCAS Executive and Committees Meetings.

 

Goal of the Organization:

The main goal of the organization is to meet together so that by combined efforts we may work together to achieve more fully the purpose of each institute/society, while respecting the autonomy, nature and spirit of each.

 

Main Activities:

The Association is involved in conducting Formators seminars, workshops, short courses, sabbatical courses and meetings.

 

Membership.

 

1. The membership of the Association is open to all Consecrated life and societies of apostolic life of Women present in Tanzania

 

2. The membership of the Association consists of all Superior Generals, Provincials/Regional Superiors or their Lawful Delegates duly accredited and Local Representatives of those Institutes or Societies which have no Provincial/Regional Superior in Tanzania.

 

Structure of the Organization

 

1. The Association has a General Assembly an Executive Committee and a Secretariat.

 

2. (a) The Association shall have three permanent Committees, namely: the Finance /planning, Education and Formation, the Chairpersons of these Committees will be members of the Executive Committee.

 

(b) If fudged opportune, ad hoc Committees may be established to tackle specific issues.

 

3. The Executive Committee is composed of eight members namely, the Chairperson and Vice- Chairperson, three other members to be elected according to Art. 8 of these statutes.

 

4. The secretariat consists of the Secretary and the Treasurer who should always carry out their duties under the guidance of the Association’s Chairperson and of any other personnel that may be deemed necessary by the General Assembly.

 

The Association has two major organs. The Annual General Meeting and the executive and Committees Meeting. The first organ is responsible for decision making and policies of the Association.

 

We manage a Secondary School in Morogoro whereby sisters are studying as well as girls from different parties of Tanzania. We also have a Formation Centre in Morogoro known as Holistic Centre whereby all On Going – Formation training are been carried out for all sisters in Tanzania as well as outside of Tanzania.
